DUST BOWL RE-ENERGIZED
It is safe to say, the Dust Bowl is back and better than ever in Madisonville. Light of Chance has taken this longstanding tradition and reenergize the community as well as attracted people from other parts of the country including Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Missouri and Wisconsin. In just two years, over 80 games have been played. In addition, Light of Chance has provided school supplies to over 200 kids, and given over 150 free back-to-school haircuts with the help of barbers within the state of Kentucky. During the Dust Bowl, free health screenings are available to everyone. Thus far, over 120 people have been screened for diabetes to blood pressure.
The Dust Bowl provides a family-friendly environment for people to relax and have fun. There is great food, music, conversation, along with some of the best basketball players around to watch play. Don’t miss this summer classic.
LIGHT OF CHANCE, INC. PRESENTS THE DUST BOWL 2011
Light of Chance, Inc. will host the Dust Bowl 2011 August 5th-7th, at the Dr. Festus Clayborn Park in Madisonville, KY. The Dust Bowl is annual basketball tournament that has been a summertime tradition in Madisonville for decades. When Light of Chance took over the event two years ago, organizers decided to use it as a platform to unite and restore the family and community environment, while bringing awareness to health issues, assisting families with purchasing school supplies and giving back-to-school haircuts. By adding these free services, Light of Chance has transformed the Dust Bowl into more than just a fun tradition, but one that also helps meet the needs of the community.
Fresh off the heels of its signature event, Aspire Weekend, which takes places annually in Madisonville and Bowling Green in June and July, respectively, Light of Chance is focused on continuing to make positive contributions to the community through both new and traditional events.
“The Dust Bowl is a longstanding tradition in the Madisonville community that represents family, fun and competition,” says Light of Chance Founder/Executive Director, Eric Logan. “We are pleased and honored to keep it going, and excited about giving back to the community.”
“This is a great opportunity to come and participate in another positive and inspiring Light of Chance event,” Logan says. “People can watch some of the best basketball talent around and receive the benefits of our back-to-school drive.”
The games will begin on Friday, August 5th at 5 p.m. and run throughout the weekend. The championship game will be played on Sunday, August 7th at 6 p.m., followed by the presentation of the championship trophy. The entry fee is $200.
